No Place Like Home

Even though I say how glad I am to have left my hometown and how sorry I feel for all those still living there, Taunton, Massachusetts will always be my home.

Taunton, MA aka "The Silver City" (if you have silver at home check where it was made) is an old working class small city in southeastern Massachusetts rich with history and filled with rude New Englanders. The city was once the center of industry, architecture, government and shopping....but that was 100 years ago. Unfortunately, over the decades, the local economy has been on a steady decline and the city has yet to revive back to the booming mecca it once was.

My goal here was to capture the city as I see it today with it's deep history and the potential it still holds to once again become a great city. Hopefully these few photos will show the different feelings I have for my home city.

This is a photo of Reed & Barton which is an old silver factory built in 1824 and is one of the oldest in the country. It is still fully operational today.

This is a river adjacent to Reed & Barton....notice the coloration of the water. Who said pollution wasn't beautiful?

Downtown Taunton....looking at city hall. Notice the old signs painted on the top wall of the brick building on the right (if you can see it)

Park in the middle of downtown at the site of a building that burnt down a while back. It seemed as though no one ever uses it.....or cleans it! Really a shame.

So if you are ever traveling near southeastern Massachusetts be sure to stop by for a hot linguica sandwich and a cold frappe. But don't ever ask directions or say hello to anyone because the locals see that as a sign of weakness.

  3. platscha, yeah you should stop by Taunton for a few shots. There is an old historic lunatic asylum called Taunton State Hospital....this place could easily win freakiest hospital in the world award....unfortunately you can't "legally" shoot there because the hospital is still operational.
Good luck on your trip and thanks for the comment.
